January 17, 2024

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Last year, I joined hundreds of Catholic University Cardinals and others at the national March for Life. It was an incredible experience–a collective celebration of life, advocacy for the unborn, and an outpouring of support for mothers and pregnant women.

This Friday, Jan. 19, marks this year’s March. I want to personally invite all students, faculty, and staff, along with your families and friends, to join me and your fellow Cardinals in participating in this important event.

I encourage you to join me at 11 a.m. on Friday in Heritage Hall, where we will gather before heading to the Brookland-CUA Metro Station to attend the March. We will hand out Catholic University beanies designed expressly for this event, along with hand-warmers and hot cocoa and coffee. We have some new signs, too, for you to display during the March.

Classes will be canceled from 11 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. so that students can take part in the March, and all faculty and staff are permitted to attend without having to take leave. I encourage you to arrange your schedules so that you can participate with our Catholic University community.

The national March for Life will kick off with a rally at noon; the March will start at 1 p.m. and end at 4 p.m. Students are encouraged to communicate with their instructors regarding missed work or assignments if they are unable to attend classes on Friday. A map showing the route of the March and where the rally will take place is at the end of the email. You can find a map showing the route of the March and the location of the rally on the March for Life website.

In addition to activities on Jan. 19, Campus Ministry is partnering with the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to co-sponsor the National Prayer Vigil for Life, which begins on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 18, and concludes on the morning of Jan. 19. There will be an opening Mass on Jan. 18 at 5 p.m. at the Basilica.

Cardinals for Life will hold a Pep Rally for Life at 8:10 p.m. in the Pryz’s Great Rooms. Dinner will be served, and Claire Culwell will be our guest speaker.

The 2024 March for Life is not just an event; it stands as a testament to, and collective affirmation of, the University’s dedication to upholding the sanctity of life and the teachings of the Catholic faith regarding the dignity of every individual. It is also a poignant opportunity for the University community to unite in advocacy for pro-life issues and support The Guadalupe Project, which embodies the University's dedication to aiding mothers and babies.

The Catholic University of America stands resolute, proud, and united in its pursuit of a world where every child is cherished. I look forward to seeing you at Heritage Hall and at the March!

Sincerely,

Peter Kilpatrick
President
