May 03, 2024

Dear Cardinals,

It is with mixed emotions that I announce the retirement of Dr. Deanne (Dee) Gipson Madden, vice president for enrollment management, effective May 17.

Since joining The Catholic University of America, Dee has been instrumental in shaping and executing our enrollment strategies, making a significant impact on the Division of Enrollment Management, and on our community. Her dedication, leadership, and positive energy have been invaluable assets to Catholic University, and we are deeply grateful for her service.

I want to personally thank Dee for all she accomplished during her tenure. She ended every email with “happy to help,” and her passion and commitment to serve the campus community was plainly evident. Under her leadership, our Admissions team has raised the number of applications to record levels for both graduate and undergraduate programs, increased attendance at all of our admissions events, and energized the entire division by creating a strong culture of collaboration and collegiality.

Dee's accomplishments over her entire career speak volumes about her as an effective and dedicated professional, and as a leader who is both compassionate and committed to excellence. Beyond her professional achievements, Dee is deeply committed to her Catholic faith, and to her family.

As Dee embarks on this new chapter of her life, we extend our heartfelt thanks and best wishes for a fulfilling and joyous retirement. Her presence will be greatly missed. Please join me in celebrating Dee's remarkable career and wishing her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.

I have appointed Mark Ciolli, current associate vice president of enrollment management and dean of undergraduate admissions, as the interim vice president of enrollment management. I look forward to working closely with Mark through this transition.

Mark has led our growth in undergraduate applications and corresponding success over his two year tenure here at Catholic University. His hands-on involvement with relationship building on campus and traveling with me to visit high school students has broadened our market reach. I know Mark will continue to build a strong team in the division, ranging from Admissions to Financial Aid to the Registrar departments, and to foster strong collaborative relationships with the entire University community.

Sincerely,

Peter Kilpatrick
President
The Catholic University of America
