Catholic University Inaugurates Its 15th President
On Jan. 25, 2011, John Garvey recited the Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church and its bishops, promising to "hold fast to the deposit of faith in its entirety" and to "faithfully hand it on and explain it" as he carries out his new responsibilities as the 15th president of The Catholic University of America.
The inauguration ceremony at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., marked the formal investiture of Garvey as president.
Intellect and Virtue: The Idea of a Catholic University was the theme of President Garvey's inaugural address. The theme was extended throughout the spring semester with programming devoted to intellect and to virtue.
